Patients who meet the following criteria may qualify for Arkansas Hospice care:

1. Terminal disease such as cancer, end-stage heart disease, lung disease, dementia, ALS, etc.
2. Life-limiting prognosis of six months or less as determined by a physician
3. Desire symptom control and pain management rather than aggressive, curative treatment

Referrals to Arkansas Hospice can come directly from family members, friends, healthcare professionals or the patients themselves. Each case is assessed on an individual basis to determine appropriateness for hospice care.

Although patients can be admitted to Arkansas Hospice with a six-month prognosis, too often patients are referred during the last weeks or days of their lives. The earlier a patient is admitted to the program, the greater the benefit to the patient and family.
