Taking “Kind” Care: Yes, You Deserve a Break Today

In a world of “to do” lists, scratch off one thing and add two more, you need to find ways to take kind care of you. Today. Tomorrow. And the day after that. Burnout and compassion fatigue are great threats in the world of griefcare. You can develop meaningful boundaries that keep you making a difference.

Session I: Giving You Permission to Grieve

In a culture that insists “Get over it!” and “Move on!” grievers need permission to recognize and experience thoroughly their grief(s). How can we, as grievers, quip move forward? How can we not “get over” grief but rather “get into” it? We will examine several social and economic factors that restrict healthy grief.

Session II: Unstaging Grief: Exploring Alternatives
to “Stages of Grief”

For too many grievers and clinicians the notion of stages of grief is the only definitive template for dealing with grief. Over-reliance on this theory shortchanges grievers and limits resources to understand and support grief. The carved-in-granite stages of grief must be revisited so that grievers can have time to grieve thoroughly and creatively.
