 Our History

Taking A Look Back …

Since April 2010, the corporate office has been located at 14 Parkstone Circle in North Little Rock with eight offices scattered throughout its service area and three inpatient hospice centers.

The following paragraphs provide information about each of these offices and facilities (past and present) as well as information about the Arkansas Hospice Foundation:

Arkansas Hospice Foundation

The Arkansas Hospice Foundation exists to support and further the mission and goals of Arkansas Hospice. Incorporated in January 2000, the Foundation is responsible for conducting fundraising, development and community outreach activities on behalf of Arkansas Hospice. Its own Board of community volunteers governs the Arkansas Hospice Foundation with the vision and direction of Arkansas Hospice.

Arkansas Hospice Batesville

On August 29, 2006, Arkansas Hospice was granted a Permit of Approval to serve Independence County from a new office in Batesville. The office was opened on June 11, 2007, and on November 1, 2007, the Permit of Approval was granted to add Jackson County to that service area. The Batesville office was approved for Medicare certification to begin fully serving patients in the community on June 27, 2008, and serves patients under its own Medicare Provider number.

Arkansas Hospice Cabot
(not a current service location)

On October 24, 2006, Arkansas Hospice made an application to the State for a multiple site location in Cabot. This would help expand services provided from the then Little Rock office to the growing patient base in the northern areas of the service area. On November 28, 2006, the Cabot office was officially open for business serving approximately 50 patients. When the Corporate office and Central Homebased team moved to North Little Rock and became functional, the Cabot office was relocated to Searcy for better service to the patients and closed on November 23, 2010.

Arkansas Hospice Central

As our original service team, the Central team is housed with the Corporate office. Starting at Fort Roots, this team moved in 2003 to the 12th Street location in Little Rock. Currently operating from 14 Parkstone Circle, the Central team is divided into three smaller groups who serve about 60-70 patients each. The census of the Central team is about one half of the entire census of Arkansas Hospice.

Arkansas Hospice Conway

Arkansas Hospice Conway opened on March 2, 2001, serving homebased patients, nursing home patients and those requiring hospice care at Conway Regional Medical Center. On October 24, 2006, the state granted permission to serve an area in a 50-mile radius of Morrilton. This has added a new dimension to the service of patients by Arkansas Hospice.

Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs

In order to better serve the community, Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs opened on February 1, 2005. An additional two counties were added to the Permit of Approval to expand the service area in February 2005 to inlcude Montgomery and Clark counties. On October 27, 2006, the Permit of Approval was issued to provide service to the entirety of Hot Spring County.

Arkansas Hospice Monticello

The Monticello office was added by Permit of Approval on December 6, 2005, serving Drew and Desha counties. The office served its first patient on December 28, 2006.

Arkansas Hospice Russellville

Arkansas Hospice Russellville was acquired from the Senior Specialist Hospice program on July 1, 2003. With a beginning patient census of 11, within the first six months the census doubled. The service area is different than the rest of the Arkansas Hospice program – covering full counties instead of a “miles of radius” area. The counties that are served from Arkansas Hospice Russellville include Conway, Johnson, Logan, Perry, Pope and Yell.

Arkansas Hospice Searcy

The move of the Corporate office from Little Rock to North Little Rock created a shift in the service area. The Cabot office was relocated to Searcy to provide better care to patients in north region of the Little Rock licensure area. Arkansas Hospice Searcy, located at 410 North Apple Street, began operations on January 17, 2011.

Arkansas Hospice Pine Bluff

In October 2004, Arkansas Hospice began the prospect of opening a satellite office in Pine Bluff to better serve the community. Approval for full use of Arkansas Hospice Pine Bluff was received February 2005. Dallas and Cleveland counties were added to the Permit of Approval, expanding the service area. On October 27, 2006, the Permit of Approval was issued to serve Lincoln County. The office relocated to 201 Frankie Lane in White Hall on November 9, 2011.

Arkansas Hospice West Memphis
(not a current service location)

On July 21, 2006, Arkansas Hospice was granted a Permit of Approval to serve Crittenden and Mississippi counties from a new office in West Memphis. Arkansas Hospice West Memphis opened on June 11, 2007. On October 1, 2009, the ownership was transferred to Unity Hospice, LLC, of Memphis, TN.

Arkansas Hospice Ottenheimer Inpatient Center

At the request of the St. Vincent Health System, Arkansas Hospice moved 16 of its 40 licensed hospice beds to St. Vincent Doctors Hospital and began receiving patients there on June 10, 2002. This move made hospice beds available on both sides of the Arkansas River. On July 28, 2011, Arkansas Hospice moved its services to St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center and began serving patients at the newly remodeled Arkansas Hospcie Ottenheimer Inpatient Center.

Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center at Fort Roots
(not a current service location)

In February 2000, the state’s first and only inpatient residential hospice center was opened in a leased wing of the modern Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in North Little Rock (the Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center). This service and the homebased hospice program continued to grow. In 2002, 16 of the 40 beds licensed to Arkansas Hospice were transferred to the St. Vincent Doctors Hospital as a second unit for inpatient care. On September 21, 2007, the last patient was transferred from the Fort Roots Center after consolidating with the LIttle Rock center at St. Vincent Doctors Hospital.

Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs Inpatient Center

In 2006, Arkansas Hospice began management of an eight- bed unit dedicated to serving hospice patients at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. The center accepted its first patient on May 8, 2006. On July 9, 2007, a Permit of Approval was granted to open 12 hospice beds in Garland County. Working with St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Arkansas Hospice converted those beds from hospital beds to hospice beds and on July 29, 2009, opened the Arkansas Hospice Hot Springs Inpatient Center within that facility.

Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home

In January 2005, Arkansas Hospice was granted a Permit of Approval to open a 19-bed inpatient facility in Russellville. The vision of this free-standing inpatient facility changed to a campus type “home” with fewer beds while adding Durable Medical Equipment services. A new Permit of Approval was granted on April 9, 2009, for an eight-bed facility. An Open House event was held for the community on September 27 and 28 of 2011. The Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home accepted its first patient on November 4, 2011.
