The Arkansas Hospice volunteer department is very excited to have a new program for patients and their families called the Memory Bears.
The Memory Bears program is a way for families of Arkansas Hospice patients to remember their loved one with a special stuffed bear keepsake. Each family is given the opportunity to give their hospice aide (nurse, social worker, chaplain or volunteer) an article of clothing belonging to their loved one to be made into a Memory Bear. Some families use a shirt, pajamas or a favorite blanket, but the options are virtually endless.
This fabric is then given to one of our gracious and talented volunteers, who cuts the bear from the fabric and gives it life with eyes, stuffing and other details. The bears are then given to the family as a special symbol of remembrance.
If you would like to volunteer to sew Memory Bears or you know an Arkansas Hospice family who might be interested in receiving one, call Harriet Hawkins at 504-748-3392.
