 Arkansas Hospice Angels

“Today people acted like I was normal, like I didn’t have a terminal illness.”

Arkansas Hospice Angels are an award-winning group serving terminally ill patients of Arkansas Hospice and their caregivers. Consistent with hospice philosophy, AHA brings loving, caring support and pampering services to our patients – manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, make-up and hair-styling.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of this program. Donating their time and supplies, this generous group brings a little comfort, restores the pride and adds a touch of everyday life to those who are dying. The Angels also wing caregivers away for a relaxing and rejuvenating time of respite.

Angels focus on the person, not the illness. The patient chooses from a menu of services, based on his or her personal preference, needs and physical ability to participate.

This might be a full body massage, or, if the patient is particularly frail, just a hand or foot massage. It might be styling a wig, rather than hair. Or it might mean a “dry” shampoo if the patient is too weak to be moved from bed.

For patients who are “up to it” or their caregivers, the full Jacquie Carter Spa Day is available, including limousine and professional photographs.

Regardless of the service, patients receive compassionate attention and gentle nurturing.

The idea for the Angels was conceived by Kim Clatworthy as a memorial to her friend Jacquie Carter. Read more
