Teatime Volunteers: Teens and Patients are Partners in Care

High school students from Mount St. Mary Academy volunteer their time and energy with patients at our Little Rock Center at St. Vincent Doctors Hospital. Mount St. Mary’s has a long tradition of student community service.

Students from the MedPro program at North Little Rock High School recently joined our Teatime Volunteer group. Graduating MedPro students will have the skills necessary to pass their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exams and begin careers as medical professionals. These students visit with patients in our North Little Rock hospice center.

All of our Teatime Volunteers make weekly visits during their school year to share tea, snacks and stories with Arkansas Hospice patients. The young volunteers gain valuable perspective and on-the-job experience. Their youthful enthusiasm and commitment to patient care is contagious. The effect is both affirming and reciprocal, as many patients also embrace the visits as an opportunity to touch young lives.

For more information on the Teatime Volunteers, please call Harriet Hawkins at 501-748-3392 or hhawkins@arkansashospice.org.
