Cards of Kindness

As the COVID-19 Coronavirus has changed the lives of nearly every Arkansan in some way, perhaps the most dramatic changes have been for residents of nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and long-term care facilities.

Faced with isolation due to the indefinite hold on visits from family, friends, and church groups, our seniors need your kindness.

To show a little kindness to our seniors and residents of facilities that have had no choice but to halt visits, Arkansas Hospice is asking everyone to take a moment and send our fellow Arkansans a “Card of Kindness.”

What are Cards of Kindness?

A Card of Kindness is simply a way to interact with our seniors in isolation, or who may feel forgotten, through written cards, letters, drawings, poems, finger paintings and art from Arkansans of all ages.

What should it say?

Simply write or create a message of love, hope, community and caring for someone you are greeting for the first time. Let them know they are remembered, valued, and missed during this time of isolation.

Your “card” can take any form, so get creative! Ask your kids to participate, and let them know we’re all in this together. Let them know that their part is just as important and meaningful as any adult’s. Speaking of adults, just write a letter, pull out a greeting card from a drawer, jot a hand-written note on anything that would brighten the day of a fellow senior Arkansan – probably one you’ve never met – and let them know you care.

How does it work?

Drop off

Drop off your Cards of Kindness to one of our collection stations weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will hold the cards for 48 hours in a secure environment to ensure they are virus-free, then distribute the cards to area residents of nursing homes and other centers who have suspended visitors. From there, the staff of participating facilities will share your kindness with their residents.

Collection bins will be placed outside our front doors in order to maintain social distancing to protect our patients, their families, and our employees.

Mail

If you are staying at home or not close to one of our collection stations, you can simply mail your Cards of Kindness. From there, they will be handled with the same care and distribution as cards dropped at a collection station. Mail to:
