Staying Connected

By arhospice on July 16th, 2019

Just as air, food, and water are necessary for the body, connection is needed for the soul.

When Stanley* had to move to a nursing facility, he had to leave his desk-top computer behind.  For some people, a computer is a means for work, games, or online shopping.  For Stanley, it was his way to connect to his only living relative.  Because his cousin lived on the east coast and due to his failing health, neither one of them were able to cross the miles to see each other in person. They wrote to each other daily by email.

When a nurse with Arkansas Hospice recognized the lack of visitors to see Stanley, she asked him if he had anybody he would like to call. He told her about the emails he used to exchange with his cousin.  The nurse contacted Arkansas Hospice Foundation who through donations to Gifts of Kindness was able to provide Stanley with a iPad.

With his new tablet in hand, Stanley and his cousin were able to re-establish their daily communication.  Two cousins, although miles apart, were once again close at heart.
