Little Bits of Beauty

By arhospice on June 7th, 2019

Christmas is supposed to be the most beautiful time of the year, but 14-year-old MacKenzie wasn’t feeling it. Her medical treatments were causing her to lose her pretty hair and her lack of energy made it difficult to leave the house.

She spent most of her time online watching the transformative magic of make-up artists on YouTube.

During a routine check-up at her home, Dr. Brian Bell, Arkansas Hospice’s Chief Medical Officer, sat down to visit with MacKenzie. She told him how the YouTube videos were helping her feel less alone and how they were helping her feel pretty despite her hair loss.

In that moment, Dr. Bell started thinking about his own daughter and remembered a bag of goodies he had coincidentally picked up at the office earlier that day. The bag contained all kinds of cosmetics that had been donated by Maybelline. He originally thought of giving it to his own teenage daughter, but providence told him otherwise.

Dr. Bell asked MacKenzie to wait for a moment, and he returned with the beauty product treats.  MacKenzie’s eyes grew wide. She was so excited to have the tools to practice all she had been learning.

Mackenzie may have been overjoyed by the various eyeliners, but this small gift proved that a smile is the best make-up any girl can wear.

Donations big and small make a difference in the lives of our pediatric patients.
