Mobility comes roaring to life

By arhospice on August 6th, 2025

On a sunny afternoon in Quitman, Arkansas, a very special young boy named Michael was celebrated with an unforgettable event that brought his backyard to life with dinosaurs of every shape and size. Michael, a pediatric patient of Arkansas Hospice, lives with a rare neurodegenerative disorder that impacts his mobility and daily activities. Thanks to the collaboration of the Arkansas Hospice Foundation and the Midwest Outdoor Adaptability Foundation, Michael’s world just became a little more adventurous.

The gathering, held in “Michael’s Park”, transformed his backyard into a Jurassic wonderland. From towering dinosaurs to custom signage and themed decorations, every detail of the event was tailored to celebrate Michael’s love for dinosaurs. The highlight of the day came when Michael was presented with a motorized all-terrain wheelchair, known as an Action Track Chair. This remarkable piece of adaptive equipment was made possible through the generosity of donors and the commitment of the Midwest Outdoor Adaptability Foundation. With this chair, Michael now has the freedom to explore the outdoors, move alongside his peers, and experience a level of independence that is truly life-changing.

The event wasn’t just about the equipment—it was also about bringing the community together to support Michael and his family. Guests enjoyed a custom dinosaur-themed cake, delicious snacks courtesy of Quitman Sonic, and Michael’s favorite treat: blue raspberry slushies provided by Sonic. Friends, family, and community members gathered to celebrate this milestone, creating joyful memories that will last a lifetime.
