One common myth about hospice care is that it is only for the elderly. Arkansas Hospice actually cares for patients of all ages, including children. As the only hospice provider in the state with a team of experienced medical, grief and support professionals dedicated specifically to pediatric care, Arkansas Hospice provides an additional layer of supportive care for pediatric patients, parents and families.

Concurrent Care with Comfort Support

Utilizing Arkansas Hospice support services does not mean giving up hope. For families of seriously ill children ages 20 and younger, Arkansas Hospice offers an option called concurrent care. This allows families of pediatric patients to continue pursuing a cure, while also receiving the benefits and comforts of Arkansas Hospice care. Arkansas Hospice served the state’s first concurrent care patient in 2013 and continues to help seriously ill children and their families gain access to the care and emotional support they need. Arkansas Hospice can help pediatric patients when:

There is a life-limiting prognosis
Patient and family request expert symptom control and pain management rather than, or in addition to, aggressive, curative treatment
The illness has advanced and there are questions about options of care
The patient is birth through age 20

In certain instances, Arkansas Hospice can offer neonatal services.
