“I do the very best I know how, the very best I can;
And I mean to keep on doing so until the end.”
~Abraham Lincoln
Have you ever been in the middle of a project and just…lost steam? It has often been suggested that to shore ourselves up or tap into that motivation again, just look behind us to see how far we’ve come or how much we’ve accomplished. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of briefly shifting our focus or changing our literal point of view to renew our spirit for the work ahead. There’s a reason for quotes like “stay the course”, “keep the faith”, or, “it’s about the journey, not the destination”. Even baseball gets a seventh inning stretch to shake things up a bit.
But, how do we stay the course when there is no end in sight or when the landscape changes before we have a chance to memorize its map? How do we remain authentic and present when we feel like we are in a mid-pandemic slump, even though there really is no midway point to be found?
Mid-pandemic slump. Doesn’t it feel like a very real thing? Where is OUR seventh inning stretch?
In reality, all the motivational quotes in the world might not make that much difference when we know we are doing the best we can every single day in the work we do.
Wait. WAIT.
That’s it, maybe that’s our motivation, saying to ourselves, “I am doing the best I can.”
Write it, print it, put a sticky on the dashboard of your car, make a note in your phone, name it and claim it in the way that is most genuine for you; for today, for YOUR mid-pandemic slump, for staying present, for seeking the true north of this sacred work, and for the rest of your “right nows”…
“I am doing the best I can.”
“I AM DOING THE BEST I CAN!”
Be Well…
