“The sun is a daily reminder that we too can rise again from the darkness, that we too can shine our own light.” — S. Ajna
For those of a certain age, “let the sunshine in” might bring back memories of the song that defined the late 60s and early 70s of peace and love during a challenging time in our country. It is still a challenging time in our country. But the message is as current as ever: speaking our truths and wishing for peace in our world, whether the one right in front of us, or the vast globe that houses all of us.
Sunshine, both literally and figuratively, companions our days. We rise when the sun rises and settle in as the sun sets. We look to the sun for warmth, guidance, and the time of day. We find it all around us, in the blooming of flora and fauna: critters warming themselves on rocks, lazy bees hovering around flowers. And healthy exposure to the sun has immense benefits, both emotionally and physically. It can enhance our mood, fight stress, and reduce our risk of cancer, and of course, Vitamin D is good for us.
Figuratively speaking, if we describe someone as a “ray of sunshine”, that tells us all we need to know about them; happy! (Unless they’re being sarcastic and that’s a post for another time). ???? Or a ray of sunshine can mean bringing light during a sad or hopeless time. A “sunny side up” egg, well, looks like the sun.
Think about the songs that reference the sun: “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”, “Sunshine on My Shoulders”, “You are My Sunshine”, or the “The Sunny Side of the Street”.
Did you know that when it’s cloudy and gray, sunflowers face each other and share their energy? Or, that the disc of the sunflower is made up of many little florets and they are arranged in a natural spiral having a Fibonacci sequence?
How do you let the sunshine in? How do you use the sun to help you find your way in life, in spirit, in community, in truth and peace? Who do you turn to when it’s cloudy and gray to share and gain energy? How does your life have balance and sequence? Is your Vitamin D a person, a place, a thing, a song?
Sing it together: “Let the Sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in.” Repeat.
Sunshine. Go get you some!
Be Well …
