When you think about what makes life meaningful, it’s often the joyful moments, the memories that make us feel loved, valued, and celebrated. For Caitlyn, a 24-year-old Arkansas Hospice patient battling juvenile Huntington’s disease, one of those moments became a reality thanks to the compassion and dedication of Arkansas Hospice. Caitlyn had always dreamed of experiencing a prom—a night of dancing, laughter, and being surrounded by the people who cared about her. This dream came true in the most heartwarming way, creating memories that she and everyone involved will cherish forever.
Caitlyn’s Dream Takes Shape
Caitlyn’s story begins with a heartfelt idea. As a patient with juvenile Huntington’s disease—a rare, hereditary condition that progressively affects the mind and body—Caitlyn faces daily challenges that most of us can hardly imagine. Yet, her vibrant spirit and love for dancing inspired her care team to create something extraordinary.
After a conversation about Caitlyn’s passions, Arkansas Hospice’s Volunteer Coordinator for the Russellville area Autumn Hurst approached the Arkansas Hospice Foundation with a mission to make Caitlyn’s dream of attending prom a reality. Knowing that Caitlyn never had the chance to experience this rite of passage as a teenager, the team was determined to give her a magical evening filled with the joy and celebration she deserved.
The Arkansas Hospice staff and volunteers immediately jumped into action. From brainstorming ideas to planning every detail, the team came together with unwavering focus and love. They worked closely with Caitlyn’s family to ensure the night would be everything she imagined. Every piece of the event, from the decorations to the music, was thoughtfully curated to create a prom experience that Caitlyn would never forget.
The Big Night: Love, Laughter, and Dancing
The evening of Caitlyn’s prom was nothing short of extraordinary. Hosted at the Russellville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the event brought together hospice staff, volunteers, Caitlyn’s family, and members of the community who wanted to make the night special. Caitlyn was escorted into a beautifully decorated venue, her face lighting up with joy as she realized this night was just for her.
Dressed in her prom attire, Caitlyn had her moment to shine. The evening was filled with wonderful food, refreshing drinks, and an outpouring of love and support from everyone in attendance. Caitlyn danced, laughed, and embraced the chance to feel celebrated—not just as a patient, but as a young woman who mattered deeply to those around her.
This was not just a night for Caitlyn—it was a powerful reminder of the impact that compassion and kindness can have. For the Arkansas Hospice team, it wasn’t just about organizing an event; it was about giving Caitlyn a memory that would bring her joy even on the hardest days. And for everyone there, it was a chance to witness the strength of a young woman and the power of a community coming together to create something truly special.
Make Dreams Like Caitlyn’s a Reality
Caitlyn’s prom is a testament to what’s possible when people come together to care deeply for others. Unfortunately, not all hospice patient needs are covered by traditional healthcare reimbursements like Medicare. That’s why the Arkansas Hospice Foundation relies on the generosity of donors to provide not just essential services but also moments of joy and celebration for patients like Caitlyn.
Your support makes it possible to fulfill dreams, alleviate financial burdens, and meet urgent needs such as providing wheelchair ramps, addressing food insecurity, or even helping families recover from storm damage. Every gift matters. By donating to the Arkansas Hospice Foundation, you can help ensure that patients and their families feel cared for, supported, and celebrated during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

The Arkansas Hospice team embodies this mission every day, going above and beyond to bring light into the lives of their patients. Caitlyn’s prom is just one example of their unwavering commitment to creating meaningful experiences for those they serve.
As we reflect on Caitlyn’s special night, let us all be reminded of the importance of showing compassion and love to those around us.
